Mercedes-Benz has not only become synonymous with luxury and refinement, but is also one of the most innovative industry-leaders when it comes to safety technology. In the 70s, Mercedes-Benz became the first automaker to offer antilock brakes in its vehicles, a feature you will find on all new or pre-owned vehicles today.

But Mercedes-Benz has come a long way from antilock brakes. Today, they are revolutionizing the automotive industry with their innovative Active Safety technology, which includes:

  • Lane Keeping Assist. Using an onboard computer and a multi-purpose camera mounted in the windshield, the Active Lane Keeping Assist system found in the Mercedes-Benz C-Class alerts drivers when they are unintentionally drifting from their lanes. Should the driver continue to drift, the onboard computer intervenes by gently applying the brakes on the opposite side of the vehicle to help the driver stay in the appropriate lane.

  • Blind Spot Assist. Active Blind Spot Assist—which is found in the Mercedes-Benz C-class at your local Mercedes-Benz dealership—monitors both blind spots alongside the vehicle using close-range radar sensors. When an object or vehicle is detected, the driver is alerted by a glowing yellow triangle in the corresponding side-view mirror. If the vehicle continues on its collision path with the object or vehicle, the system activates corrective braking to prevent or minimize the damage of a collision.

  • Adaptive Highbeam Assist. It can be frustrating, and dangerous, to continually adjust the brightness of your headlights when on a dark or winding road. Fortunately, many Mercedes-Benz models feature Adaptive Highbeam Assist, an innovative safety feature that can detect the headlights of oncoming traffic and automatically dim the headlights to a safe and comfortable level for passing motorists. Be sure to visit your local Mercedes-Benz new or pre-owned dealership to get a closer look at this truly amazing safety feature.
